The smell of barbeque filled the air as hundreds of people gathered to the Village Green on Ucluelet's harbour waterfront to kick-off the celebrations of Ukee Days 2012. This annual festival runs in late July and is always anticipated by the community. It’s a full weekend of activities, live entertainment, artisan marketplace, beer gardens, crazy competitions, great food and even Logger Sports!
The Gray Team is so pleased to be corporate sponsors of Ukee Days. We had a great time tonight selling tickets for the salmon and oyster barbeque. Live music played beside the barbeque area in the greens as everyone enjoyed a favourite west coast meal.
The Ukee Friday Night Market was there adding to the festival atmosphere. Handmade jewellery, locally baked bread and desserts, soap, visual art, textiles, dog treats, specialty teas, and coffees were all on display for sale. This weekly Friday night market is new to Ucluelet this year and is growing every week.
New to the Friday Ukee Days event line up was a demonstration from The Black Pearls, our very own all girl roller derby team. Main Street was blocked to traffic and the crowds gathered on either side of the road to watch these talented ladies demonstrate their amazing roller skating skills.
As the marketplace came to an end, much of the crowd headed to the Ucluelet Community Centre for the Ukee Days Dance. This dance featured live music from The Lorne Stars.
Join in the fun tomorrow with a pancake breakfast kicking the day off from 7AM to 10:00PM at the UAC Hall. After breakfast bring your lawn chair to Peninsula Road and get your front row seats for the Ukee Days Parade starting at 10:15AM.
This is the 38th Annual Ukee Days. Every year the community comes together in an atmosphere of playfulness and a celebration of life on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It’s a great place to live!
